GARDENDALE, Ala. – The Rust College softball program held a 4-0 lead in game one and struck first in the second contest, but ultimately wound up faltering down the stretch in a pair of five-inning defeats, 13-4 and 12-3, at Miles.

  • Amya Sampson was a run-producer in the heart of Head Coach Kendrick Vivians' lineup, accounting for three of the team's five RBIs including a triple in the opener that scored Leona Joshua.

 

  • Speaking of Joshua, she went 3-of-6 (.500) while scoring three times, stealing a base in each ballgame, and cranking a double in addition to striking out five Golden Bears in the circle.

 

  • Haley Weatherspoon racked up some mileage on the basepaths, smacking both a double and a triple on top of crossing home plate thrice.

 

  • Kayla Townsend hit a one-run two-bagger, raced home on a wild pitch, and coaxed a base on balls as Anijah Gray drew two free passes in the box while whiffing five hitters in just three innings on the bump.
