Bearcats Throttle Oakwood Before Falling To Philander Smith, Go 2-1 In Pod

HOLLY SPRINGS, Miss. – The Rust College men's basketball program jumped all over the Ambassadors in the first half (40-18) on its way to a decisive 17-point victory on Saturday but could not contain a high-powered Panthers squad in the pod finale on Sunday evening.

Ronald Berkley III was the leading scorer for the Bearcats in the final two contests of the home pod, averaging 16 points while shooting 11-of-17 (64.7%) overall and 7-for-9 (77.8%) from downtown. He did most of his damage in the rout of OU, putting up a game-high 22 points via an 8-of-9 showing with five treys plus five boards despite seeing just 16 minutes of time.

Davonte Craven fronted the Cats in both rebounds (16) and assists (5), snatching contest-bests on the glass in each matchup to go along with being the only Bearcat minus Berkley to record double-digit point totals in each battle (11.5 PPG).

Damonte Streate played the role of thief for Head Coach Michael Poindexter, picking the pocket of seven opponents on the weekend.

The Blue and White will participate in one last pod at Philander Smith next weekend as it looks to keep itself among the top-half of the GCAC standings.
