Rust College's Kemal Benjamin Named HBCUAC Men’s Field Athlete of the Week

This honor marks Benjamin's first conference weekly award of the season and comes following a dominant showing at the Morehouse Relays, where he competed against NCAA Division I athletes and delivered an elite, all-around performance.

Benjamin secured a first-place finish in the men's decathlon, outperforming the competition by an impressive 505-point margin. Throughout the multi-event competition, he showcased his versatility and strength by earning first-place finishes in the 100 meters, long jump, shot put, 400 meters, javelin, and 1500 meters. In the 1500 meters, Benjamin delivered one of the most dominant performances of the meet, finishing 34 seconds ahead of the second-place competitor. He also added a second-place finish in the discus to cap off his remarkable outing.

"Kemal has been putting in the work day in and day out, and it's great to see it pay off in such a big way," said Head Coach Damien Brigham. "To go out and dominate a field that includes Division I competition speaks volumes about his dedication and competitive drive. We're proud of him and excited to see what's next."

Benjamin's performance continues to highlight the upward trajectory of the Bearcats' track & field program as the team builds momentum throughout the outdoor season.
