Rust College Baseball Opens 2026 Season Ready to Compete in the HBCUAC
Rust College is projected to finish 8th in the HBCUAC preseason poll, but the Bearcats are embracing the challenge as motivation. After falling in the opening round of last year's HBCUAC Tournament, the program returns with a hungry roster that is determined to make a deeper run this spring.
"We know what the conference expects from us," said Coach Bates. "But our team has been working with purpose. We've got leaders returning, we've got competitive firepower, and we're excited about what we can become this season."
A major piece of Rust College's return is standout shortstop Kyrent Cole, who was named Preseason All-HBCUAC First Team entering the 2026 campaign. Cole has established himself as one of the conference's most dependable defenders and a key leader in the middle infield, bringing experience, consistency, and confidence to the Bearcats' lineup.
Another key returner is Christopher Brock, who has emerged as one of Rust's most dangerous offensive threats heading into the season. Brock's power at the plate and ability to deliver in big moments has been a bright spot throughout preseason preparation and is expected to play a major role in the Bearcats' attack this spring.
With a mix of returning experience and a roster eager to prove itself, Rust College Baseball is positioned to be one of the HBCUAC's most competitive teams in 2026. The Bearcats will look to build momentum early and make their presence felt as conference play begins.
Fans are encouraged to follow Rust College Baseball throughout the season and support the Bearcats as they pursue a strong finish in the HBCUAC.
