Rust College's Lauren Bennett Earns HBCUAC Newcomer of the Week Honors

Bennett turned in a monster outing against Fisk University, recording 24 points and 21 rebounds, showcasing her presence on both ends of the floor. Her double-double performance highlighted her ability to control the paint, finish strong offensively, and provide relentless effort on the boards.

"Lauren continues to grow and gain confidence every game," said Head Coach Jaleesa Sams. "Her performance against Fisk showed her toughness, work ethic, and willingness to do whatever it takes to help this team win. We're proud of her and excited about what's ahead."

The honor marks Bennett's first Player of the Week recognition of the season, underscoring the immediate impact she has made in her first year with the program. Her performance continues to elevate Rust College as the team navigates its inaugural season in the HBCU Athletic Conference.

The Bearcats will return home for a pivotal three-game homestand next week, welcoming Arkansas Baptist College on January 21, Talladega College on January 22—which will also serve as High School Night—and Voorhees University on January 24.

Rust College women's basketball looks to build momentum as conference play continues, with Bennett playing a key role in the team's success moving forward.
