Rust College’s Malik Berrien & JaShaun Franks Earn Spots on All-HBCUAC Baseball Preseason Team

Berrien, a junior outfielder, led the team in stolen bases last season and is on the verge of a major milestone. With just 15 more steals, he will join the exclusive 100/100 club, achieving 100 career hits and 100 career stolen bases. His speed and ability to create scoring opportunities make him an invaluable asset to the Bearcats' aggressive style of play.

Franks, a senior outfielder and designated hitter, has been a force in Rust College's lineup. In addition to making the All-HBCUAC Preseason Team, Franks was also named to the prestigious 2025 Black College Nines HBCU Preseason Elite First Team. His consistent hitting and veteran leadership will be crucial as the Bearcats look to make an impact this season.

Rust College head coach John Bates praised both players for their work ethic and dedication to the program. "Malik and JaShaun have been tremendous leaders for our team, both on and off the field. Their recognition is well deserved, and we expect them to play a big role in our success this year," said Bates.

The Bearcats, predicted to finish 5th in the HBCUAC this season, will look to build momentum behind their standout players as they prepare for their season opener on February 14 against SUNO in the Bo Sellars Classic.
