Diamond Sweats Wins Back-To-Back GCAC Newcomer of the Week Awards

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Rust College women's basketball program has swept the GCAC Newcomer of the Week accolades so far in 2023-24 as Diamond Sweats captured her second straight honor after leading the Lady Bearcats to victories over Stillman and LSU Shreveport on Monday and Thursday, respectively.

Sweats, a six-foot shooting guard from Dallas, Texas, averaged 17.5 points (35 total) and 7.5 rebounds (15 total) while shooting 41.9% from the field as she went 13-for-31, three of those were from distance.

The Lincoln HS alum added a quartet of steals and a trio of assists to the ledger while nearly notching her first double-double at RC in the win against the Pilots with 12 points plus nine boards.

Sweats and the women's team will have a jam-packed week of hoops during the Thanksgiving break, playing at Blue Mountain Christian on Monday, hosting (RV) Faulkner on Wednesday, and then traveling to Kingsport, Tennessee for a pair of matchups with West Virginia Tech and Oakland City at NAIA The Show tournament.
