Athletic Director Jarvis Stephen Adds GCAC President To His Title

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Rust College athletics program has grown tremendously since its acceptance into the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference, and it took another giant leap forward in its membership as Athletic Director Jarvis Stephen has been named as the new GCAC President by the league office.

While Mr. Stephen will be taking on this new prominent role at the conference level, Bearcats fans do not have to fear another AD search in the near future as he will retain his role as the head of the department coinciding with his presidency, entering his third full season as the leader of the Blue and White.

Responsibilities that come along with the job include the following:

  1. Presides over all Gulf Coast Athletic Conference meetings.
  2. Appointing all Standing and Special Committees not specified in either the Constitution or By-laws.
  3. Calling special meetings of the Conference Executive Committee when two or more members have requested or at the President's own discretion.
  4. Providing physical arrangements for conference meetings when needed.
  5. Serving as the GCAC's official representative on the NAIA National Administrative Council as well as casting the league's vote at the NAIA Business Meeting.

When Mr. Stephen was asked to provide a quote on his new position, he provided this anecdote from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. stating "The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy,".
